Thanks for your interest in writing for us! Songs of Love is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to creating personalized, original songs for kids who are seriously ill, free of charge. To do this, we work with freelance songwriters.
Ideally, we're looking for singer-songwriters who can produce their own work. To be considered as a songwriter, please submit a sample of your work
(as mp3 file or on CD) and a cover letter to
elena@songsoflove.org or:
Songs of Love Foundation

Please send a letter explaining a little about your music & your recording situation. What are we hearing in the demo? (Is it recorded at home with midi, recorded at a pro studio with live players, etc.?) And, if you don't produce yourself, do you have a producer you could collaborate with? If we determine that you're a good fit for what we need right now, we'll give you a call. Due to the volume of responses and demos we receive, we are only able to call those we are interested in working with.
Songs of Love’s nonprofit charter stipulates that all writers donate the copyright of all songs written, because of the confidential nature of the information we receive about the children and because of our nonprofit status, which does not permit that the songs be sold in a commercial market. Writers are eligible for writers’ royalties in the case of songs that appear in a major media venue (eg, our 60 Minutes appearance). There is also opportunity for exposure as we are often covered in major media outlets.
Many people ask "how it works" to get the songs written: The person requesting a song for a child (parent or medical contact) fills out a form with information about the child and sends it to us. We assign each song to an appropriate writer (depending on type of music requested, age of the child, writers' availability, etc.) and send the writer a scan of the form about the child. The writer uses that info to create a song for that child and sends the finished song, in mp3 format, to us. We then process and send the song to the child from our office on a CD with their name and our design and logo on it. We often get touching thank you letters and pictures, which we always pass on to the writer(s) who wrote & recorded the song. Thanks again - I look forward to hearing your music!
