Steffani Bennett was born in Massachusetts to two musicians, and began studying piano and dance at age 5. She went on to study classical voice and jazz at New England Conservatory, and moved to New York in the early 90s. She became a successful back-up and session singer, songwriter, and a television composer, and has performed on countless recordings. Steffani was the Grand Prize Winner of the 1998 USA Songwriting Competition, and also a finalist in the '99 Unisong Contest. Her debut CD, "I'm The Girl", was chosen as a TOP 12 DIY (self-release) in the May '99 issue of Performing Songwriter Magazine. She has sung in ads (Levis), been in Broadway Workshops (with Raul Esparza and Sandy Duncan) and has sung back-up with Lesley Gore, Mary Wilson, Keith Diamond, Al B Sure!, and Wayne Brady, to name a few. She was part of the PBS special Hey La, the Girl Groups are Back, featuring the great Motown/Phil Spector acts of the 60s. As a singer/songwriter, Steffani has played in venues throughout NY and up the East coast, and released 2 cd's.
For 5 years Steffani co-ran Raw Sugar Music with Jim McGregor, and composed music for NBC, FOX, the 2000 World Series, the 2000 Olympics, the 2002 MTV Music Awards, and NPR. Their tracks are still heard on the networks today. In 2005, she finished her 2nd album, "Worth the Wait" with drummer/producer Nir Z (John Mayer, Chris Cornell), guitarists Nunzio Signore (Bo Diddley, Brian McKnight), and Peter Calo (Carly Simon). She wrote and sang a jingle for 'LA Carpet' with Jeff Bova in Los Angeles the same year.
In 2006 Steffani was featured on '60 MINUTES' as a writer for SONGS OF LOVE. She's very proud of her long time association with this incredible organization. Most recently, she wrote and sang for American Idol semi-finalists Will Makar and Ayla Brown. Steffani's now back in Boston, where she can root for the Red Sox in peace! :)
